Canadian Burn Survivors Conference Agenda

April 29, 2016

To: All Members of Local 867

From:

We are pleased to invite all firefighters to attend the next Canadian Burn Survivors Conference, which will be held from June 15 to 18, 2016, at the Delta Hotel in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba.   Our theme is Building a Supportive Community and we expect up to 175 burn survivors, family members, health care professionals and firefighters from across the country to participate.  The conference starts with an opening evening reception on June 15, and the next 3 days will be filled with keynote presentations, panel discussions, medical/health care professional sessions and sharing circles.

One of our keynote speakers is Tyler Pelke.  At the age of 14, Tylers friend was murdered while he was viscously attacked, set on fire and left to die. Tyler survived, but was left with physical and physiological scars and refusing to let an event or circumstance define him, he pressed on to understand his purpose in life.  Despite 3rd degree burn injuries to 25% of his body Tyler went on to pursue a career as a firefighter and has risen within the ranks of the Canadian fire service – working today as Assistant Deputy Fire Chief within a major metropolitan department.

Tyler is speaking on Friday June 17 at 9:00 a.m. and all firefighters are welcome and encouraged to attend this session for free.  If you would like to register for a part or for the rest of the conference, please contact Barbara-Anne Hodge at barb@hodgefamily.ca or visit our website at www.mamingwey.ca

Thanks,

Barb
