Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is an active short term supporting process designed to assist with crisis reactions.

The WFPS CISM Team’s purpose is to provide education, support, assessment, and intervention for those exposed to and/or affected by critical incidents.

The team consists of trained members in various branches across the department who are trained to assist those who have experienced traumatic stress in the course of their work, however CISM members are not trained in psychotherapy, nor are they a substitute for it.

The goals of this psychological first aid for our members are stabilization, symptom reduction and to facilitate access to continued care by the appropriate mental health professionals.

The WFPS CISM Activation G.O.G. provides additional information on the process, and CISM Team members can be contacted via the WFPS CISM Contact List on WFPS online, found under the WELLNESS header on the left side of the home page.

For questions or additional information please contact any team member or WFD CISM Coordinator Scott Wilkinson at swilkinson@winnipeg.ca.
