I am in currently Colorado Springs attending the I.A.F.F. Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. At this memorial fire fighters and family members from across North America will be paying tribute to Fire Fighters who have died in the line of duty. Added to the wall of honour this year will be the names of two Winnipeg Fire Fighters who died in the line of duty as a result of occupational disease.
We will not be making any further comments to the media regarding the overtime issue until after I return to Winnipeg and meet with Acting Chief Bill Clark on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
We would like to state that our commitment and our discussions will be based on one thing, dealing with the current overtime issue without hurting our ability to serve the citizens of Winnipeg and without hurting fire fighter safety or that of the public.
