Earlier this week, I was given the honour of being elected as your next United Firefighters of Winnipeg Vice-President.

I accept this position with humility and a sincere appreciation for it’s importance in safeguarding health, safety and quality of life for our members and their families.

You have my unwavering commitment to continuing this work with honesty, integrity and determination be it with our members, or decision-makers in managerial & political arenas.

I must also most importantly thank my wife Valerie Balcaen for standing by my side throughout this nearly 17 year journey in labour politics. Our partners are the only ones to truly appreciate the time & energy these positions demand, and themselves endure and sacrifice so much because of it.

President-Elect Bilous and I are energized to welcome our new board in the coming weeks and share our vision for the UFFW with the 1,500 active and retired members shortly.
