Support the Sixth Annual Rooftop campout for Muscular Dystrophy

February 20, 2015

To: All Members of Local 867

From: Derek Balcaen

It’s hard to believe, but we are now gearing up for our 6th annual Rooftop Campout for MD at #4 station on Osborne. So far, our firefighters have managed to raise a whopping

$170,000 for local Manitoba families affected by Muscular Dystrophy with this great event!

Did you know Winnipeg firefighters have been involved with Muscular Dystrophy for more than 60 years now? This makes it our longest standing charitable partner and the unofficial main charity of firefighters across North America. (Jerry’s Kids in the US)

We take great pride in always being involved in the community and giving back whenever possible, so this particular high-profile fundraiser is very important to all of us. We would ask that if you have not felt comfortable with political action calls in the past, that you would consider assisting us with this important charitable event.

This event takes a great deal of hands to be successful and we have the following opportunities for you to assist your local by volunteering a few hours of your time:

* Set-up                                   Friday March 13th                                     09:00

* Morning road tolls               March 17, 18, 19 (Wed, Thu, Fri)          07:00-09:00

* Afternoon road toll              March 18                                                  16:00-18:00

* Teardown                             Monday March 23rd                              09:00

Volunteer stand-in shifts are also needed for some of our campers, please contact Derek Balcaen

We are expecting a tremendous amount of media coverage once again this year, and it would send a clear message of support to all if we had strong turnout from our membership.

On behalf of the organizing committee and our campers, I look forward to hearing from you.
