🚨 WFPS Performance Metrics: A System Under Strain πŸ“ˆ

Winnipeg’s firefighters respond to more calls per capita than any other capital city fire department in Canada. No exception.

➑️ 2021: 105.64 calls per 1,000 population
➑️ 2022: 113.07 calls per 1,000 population
➑️ 2024: A staggering 169.3 calls per 1,000 population

During this same period, Winnipeg’s population surged by over 100,000, growing from 749,000 to approximately 849,000 residents.

Despite these numbers continuing to climb, not a single fire truck has been added in decades. In fact, Winnipeg Fire has fewer trucks today than it did in the 1980s.

Despite facing:

β€’ The highest total call volume per capita in Canada,

β€’ The highest rate of structure fires with losses per 1,000 residents,

The City plans to remove one of our busiest fire trucks from Station 6 in the North End next monthβ€”further crippling our ability to meet response time targets.

UFFW is proud of our members, who consistently demonstrate professionalism, resilience, and commitment in the face of rising demand and shrinking resources.

We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure Winnipeg’s firefighters are equipped with what they need to fulfill our promise to this city:

β€œWe Hold Thee Safe.”

Because in our profession, seconds countβ€”
And there is no worse feeling than arriving too late to prevent loss of life or property.
