UFFW President Nick Kasper spoke with Global Winnipeg and CJOB about the realities faced by Winnipeg Firefighters.
As reported by WFPS to the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services, Fire call volumes in Winnipeg increased by 87% from 2019 – 2023. Numbers have continued to climb in 2024 into 2025.
The continually increasing demands being placed on an already lean public service are unsustainable.
Our elected officials in the City of Winnipeg – Municipal Government have been presented with the data. It’s time to act – allocating appropriate funding, adjusting staffing ratios, and engaging in responsible hiring to address the ever growing number of structure fires and arsons impacting Winnipegers on a daily basis.
